Why is resistance training vitally important as you age?

1.) Longevity!

2.) Increased Strength

3.) Improved Bone Density

4.) Better Balance

5.) Increased Independence

Resistance training has a positive impact on the risk for all-cause mortality. This includes a lower risk for falls and fractures, all heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, pulmonary disease, dementia, and kidney failure.

Resistance training is the best way to gain strength. Becoming stronger empowers seniors to take on everyday challenges such as carrying the groceries, picking objects up off the floor, or lifting your grandkids!

Increased bone density happens from micro-trauma to the bone from a load, and if proper nutrition is given, bone is able to repair itself to become stronger.

Becoming stronger is key to balance. As stabilizing muscles become stronger, they are able to support your weight better, leading to improved balance.

From being able to walk your dog without the worry of them pulling you over, to being able to lift things off the floor. Resistance training is key to help the body make fundamental movements to keep your independence!

6.) Improved Brain Function

7.) Improved Joint Health

8.) Mental Health Benefits

9.) Quality of Life

10.) Improved Coordination

Resistance training has been shown to help slow down the development of Alzheimer's, and improve memory by learning new movements.

Having stronger muscles surrounding the joint helps to improve stability of the joint itself. Stronger and mobile muscles help to allow the joint to move through a proper range of motion.

Strengthening muscles help to improve proprioception allowing the body to better understand how to move in space. An improvement in neural connection from the brain to the muscles creating a better connection between the two.

Live the life you want to live for longer. This could include being strong enough in later years to help caregivers so they do not have to manually pick you up!

Resistance training can help with depression, anxiety, sleep, self-esteem, and chronic fatigue.

Lifting Weights

As a dedicated fitness professional, with six years of experience, I have specialized in training senior clients. Through my journey, I have noticed a significant gap in available classes focused on strength training for seniors. With recent research, there has been massive correlations in muscle mass, bone density, and better metabolic health for seniors who resistance train. This realization has inspired me to create a program that caters specifically to their needs, ensuring they can enhance their strength and overall well-being.
